Filipe Nunes RibeiroAssociate Professor |
I am a professor in the Department of Computer and Systems at the Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP), Brazil. I hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), where I focused on leveraging data from online social networks to infer user demographics. This research led to the development of four key systems: Media Bias Monitor, Brazilian Politicians’ Audience, Brazilian Media Sources’ Audience, and a system that analyzed the demographics of ads published before and during the 2016 U.S. presidential election by the Russian Internet Research Agency. During my Ph.D., I held a research internship at the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems (MPI-SWS) in Saarbrücken, Germany. Prior to that, I worked as a Research and Development Engineer at Samsung and COSS Consulting (2009–2011). I earned a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), where I studied privacy in Location-Based Services, and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from UFOP in 2006. My research focuses on Social Computing, Artificial Intelligence, and Computational Social Science. I am particularly interested in the use of online social media data to understand human behavior, political communication, information diffusion, and algorithmic transparency.
I am fortunate to work with a group of talented and dedicated students:
