In this article we present how automatic program transformation
techniques
can be used in a functional language compiler to improve the quality
and performance of the code generated.
The transformations we use are relatively simple if
analysed on their own, but when combined they achieve results that are
often obtained only in an ad-hoc way or through specific
transformations.
