Título: Eigenvalues between alpha and chi

Abstract: Finding eigenvalue bounds to the independence number or to the chromatic number is perhaps one of the oldest topics of research in algebraic graph theory, dating back to the works of Hoffman, Haemers, Delsarte, Wilf and others, in the 70s. Fortunately, the supply of new questions seems endless, and many interesting results have appeared recently, specially bringing out connections to algebras, semidefinite optimization and quantum information theory. In this talk, I will survey some of my favourite old and new results, and I will also discuss some research directions to which I have contributed recently.
